iMacros - Form Filler & Password Manager, Automated Download & Upload, Social Scripting (Social Bookmarking) and More.

About iMacros for Firefox

Automate Firefox. Record and replay repetitious work. If you love the Firefox web browser, but are tired of repetitive tasks like visiting the same sites every days, filling out forms, and remembering passwords, then iMacros for Firefox is the solution you’ve been dreaming of! ***Whatever you do with Firefox, iMacros can automate it.***

iMacros was designed to automate the most repetitious tasks on the web. If there’s an activity you have to do repeatedly, just record it in iMacros. The next time you need to do it, the entire macro will run at the click of a button! With iMacros, you can quickly and easily fill out web forms, remember passwords, create a webmail notifier, download information from other sites, scrape the Web (get data from multiple sites), and more. You can keep the macros on your computer for your own use, or share them with others by embedding them on your homepage, blog, company Intranet or any social bookmarking service. The uses are limited only by your imagination!

Here are just a few examples of how you can use iMacros to automate your web browser.

(1) Form Filler & Password Manager

With iMacros for Firefox, you no longer need to check the same sites every day, remembering passwords, and filling out web forms. iMacros is the only form filler that can autofill web forms that stretch over several pages. All information is stored in human-readable, plain text files that can be easily edited. Passwords are stored securely with 256-Bit AES encryption. Users memorize only one master password and iMacros remembers all the others, providing a truly automated login experience, that beats the Solution to Enterprise Single Sign-On (SSO).

(2) Automated Download & Upload

iMacros can automate the download of images, files, or entire pages (with or without images). In the other direction, it can automate the upload of data to websites. You can use variables inside the macros and import data from CSV files. iMacros includes a user agent switcher, PDF download and Flash, and ad- and image-blocking functions. When combined and controlled with Javascript, the recorded Macros can script even very complex tasks.

(3) Data Extraction, Web Scraping/Mining & Enterprise Data Mash-Ups

The iMacros EXTRACT command automatically reads data from a website and exports it to CSV files – the exact opposite of filling out forms. iMacros includes full Unicode support and works with every language, including multi-byte languages such as Chinese. You can use this feature to download stock quotes, gather and compare web store prices, and more.

(4) Web Testing

Web professionals can use iMacros for functional, performance, and regression testing of web applications. The built-in STOPWATCH command captures precise web page response times. iMacros also includes support for many AJAX elements.

(5) Social Scripting (Social Bookmarking)

Sharing your favorite iMacros with friends and colleagues is easy. Simply right-click the macro to add it as a bookmark, or select "Run Everywhere" and embed the complete macro in a simple link. You can send the link to others, or embed it on your homepage, blog, or company intranet. Instead of telling your site visitors how to fill out a form, let iMacros do it for them. All the information is stored inside the link as a text string, with nothing stored on our servers, which is why iMacros work on intranets, too. See an example at del.icio.us/imacros/imacro.

(6) Other Uses

For more ideas on how to use iMacros, please visit www.iopus.com/imacros/firefox and/or our active support forum at forum.iopus.com.

iMacros is extremely versatile and can be combined with other extensions such as Greasemonkey, Web Developer, Firebug, Stylish, Download Statusbar, NoScript, PDF Download, Foxmarks, Fasterfox, All-in-One Sidebar, Megaupload, Foxyproxy, Flashblock and Adblock.

iMacros for Firefox is free for personal and commercial use. Download the add-on today to start simplifying your Web tasks and sharing your macros with others!

Whatever you do with Firefox, iMacros can automate it.

BetterPrivacy (App) By NettiCat - BetterPrivacy is a Super Cookie Safeguard which protects from usually not deletable LSO's.

Words From Developers

Ever wondered why you are still tracked though you tried everything to prevent it?
BetterPrivacy is a Super Cookie Safeguard which protects from usually not deletable LSO's. It blocks longterm tracking on Google, YouTube Ebay and many other domains.

Welcome to my little repository of FireFox extensions.
Most extensions are coded by me and are particularly based on user-scripts (for Greasemonkey). A few other addons are adopted or modded, meaning they are originally created by another author. There is also an addon that is made with a script compiler. A compiler automatically converts a userscript to a Firefox extension.

This site uses cookies, LSO's and javascript

This site uses cookies but not for tracking reasons. They are needed to prevent prevalent hotlinking and to give download permission to real visitors. Otherwise the very old server machine might break down because of unexpected hotlink traffic - which is worse in any case. Since the cookies are only needed for the time of a visit, they will automatically expire after a few hours.

Flash plugins that run on this site will also store LSO's (local shared objects) on your system, intended as a demonstration of modern tracking technology (see also BetterPrivacy addon). However no personal data is stored, just the curent time. The user gets further information with the text that is displayed by those Flash animations.

Finally, this site uses scripts. Javascript is doubtlessly the architect of the future web. All major browser manufactures recognized the importance of that technology and are actively pushing their browsers towards highly sophisticated script engines. That effort consumes 85% of the whole Firefox developement time. Using and extending this technology is of big advantage for everyone's web experience as many new web services have already proved.
The scripts used here are of a more plainless nature, but are at least very important for maintaining the major site functionality. For example, the addon install buttons would be broken without script support - alltogether with disappointed visitors. Did you know that almost all Firefox addons are made of javascript?

Venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki automated Twitter feed spreads malware

Venture capitalist Guy Kawasaki got more than he bargained for from an automated feed he set up on his Twitter account.

Some of Kawasaki's more than 139,000 Twitter followers noticed something strange when they saw a particular non-VC-related tweet sent from his account on Tuesday.

The update advertised a sexy video of "Gossip Girl" star Leighton Meester and had a link leading to a site where, if the visitor clicked to view the video (and ostensibly download a necessary codec), a Trojan called OSX/Jahlav-C for the Mac OS would be installed instead, Graham Cluley wrote on his blog on Wednesday for antivirus vendor Sophos.

Kawasaki told The Wall Street Journal his account is set up to redistribute updates from NowPublic, a user-generated news site.

The auto-published tweet was from a NowPublic feed that was not moderated by the site, NowPublic co-founder Michael Tippett told the WSJ later.

"Auto-feeds on Twitter can be quite risky," Michael Argast, a security analyst for Sophos, told CNET News.

Kawasaki's account wasn't the only one redistributing the malicious link; the same tweet was sent from other lower-profile accounts.

Facebook users' private profile data at risk?

Two Facebook fans generated a load of free publicity for their new blog when, in their maiden post, disclosed a vulnerability in the social-networking website that could enable outsiders to view parts of profiles that are set to private.

On its FBHive blog, which went live Monday, the pair revealed a bug in Facebook that can allow non-friends to view personal data on other members.

"With a simple hack, everything listed in a person's 'Basic Information' section can be viewed, no matter what their privacy settings are," they wrote. "This information includes networks, sex, birthday, hometown, siblings, parents, relationship status, interested in, political views and religious views."

The "interested in" section refers to whether a member is using Facebook to connect with friends, romantic partners, etc.

The two hackers did not explain how they were able to pry their way in but promised to release details in the next few days. As proof of their exploit, though, they displayed the "Basic Information" sections of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Digg founder Kevin Rose and Boing Boing blogger Cory Doctorow.

Security experts said that though this hack does not allow for the spread of malware, it could help perpetrate identity theft.

"You can't consider the information up there totally trusted and private," John Harrison, group product manager at Symantec Security Response, told SCMagazineUS.com on Monday. "I think people need to think twice about the information they put out there."

For example, Harrison said he lists his incorrect birth date on his Facebook profile.

He added that Facebook offers users granular privacy options and recommended that members recheck their settings.

Facebook reportedly closed the hole, but a spokesperson there could not be reached. The operators of FBHive, which promises to discuss Facebook news and rumors on the new blog, also could not be reached.

How to Avoid Facebook and Twitter Disasters

Who knew your boss could see so much of your Facebook page--including the pics from your wild weekend? Over sharing can lead to underemployment. Take some practical steps to control what others see about you.

The power of social networks like Facebook and Twitter comes from their ability to quickly share information about your life with other people. But along with that ability comes the risk of sharing sensitive information with the wrong people, and that risk increases as your network grows well beyond your core circle of friends.

Using Twitter and Facebook effectively takes more than discretion; you should know how to tweak the settings for these services so that you have full control over who sees what on your Facebook page or on Twitter. In the two stories linked below, and in others to come, we'll cover both sides of the coin: how to use the tools at your disposal to keep your profiles in check, and how to handle the etiquette side of the equation, as well.

The garden-variety freshman may not have much to worry about, but it's a different story if you--as many people are increasingly doing--are using Facebook and Twitter not for updates about your meals, pets, and drinking binges, but for professional purposes. So we've outlined here a handful of common disastrous scenarios in which one (or both) of these social networks was misused, as well as the best way to prevent or remedy the problem.

But in the end you'll find that the fundamental lesson is invariably the same, and that's to remember the golden rule of all social networks: Never forget that the whole world is watching.

David Fincher in talks for Facebook pic

David Fincher's following up the Oscar-winning The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with a curious tale of a completely different sort. According to Variety, Fincher is close to signing on to direct The Social Network for Columbia Pictures.

Aaron Sorkin (Charlie Wilson's War) wrote the script which follows the evolution of the social media phenomenon, Facebook. Sorkin's screenplay traces Harvard sophomore Mark Zuckerberg's creation of Facebook in 2004 and its evolution into one of the internet's most popular sites. If the deal goes through, Columbia's looking to get The Social Network rolling later this year.

Clean Tweets Free Twitter Tool - Clean Tweets eliminates spam when using Twitter Search. No more Tweets sending you to malware or porn sites

Clean Tweets is a Firefox Toolbar Addon that essentially cleans up Twitter search, specifically Trending Topics. Anyone who is a frequent user of Twitter Search knows that there are a lot of people (and the number grows every day) that SPAM the trending topics with anything from "Get Rich Quick Schemes" to affiliate links and even people that blatantly ask for more followers. It is annoying, waters down and makes Twitter search and Trends less useful.

There are times when I view a trending topic and 90% are spam or worthless tweets. I have to dig down 3 pages deep just to see what the source is for the topic to be trending. Twitter is growing at an alarming rate and as cool as that is for all of us that love it and use it, it also means more opportunity for spammers. So we built Clean Tweets to combat Twitter Search spam and hopefully eliminate Trending topic Spam almost completely.

Here is how Clean Tweets works:

Clean Tweets does various actions when you use Twitter Search at either Search.twitter.com or when you access search from within your web based profile.

It automatically deletes any tweets from accounts that are less than 24hrs old (or how long you specify). A lot of search spam comes from churn and burn accounts that spam until they get flagged so doing this cuts down on a lot of spam. (don't worry legit newcomers you can show up tomorrow).

Anyone tweet that mentions 3 or more (or what you decide) trending topics in it will not show up. Most spammers also list every trending topic they can find after their little spammy speal so this is a good way to cut down automatically as well.

Manual Delete Option. For the spammers that sqeak by or just list one trend at a time you can click an X by their avatar and it will delete their tweet and remove them from ever showing up again. (don't worry if you accidently delete your friend you can get them back in your settings)

It is pretty simple but in the days we have been testing it, it is very effective and cuts down on a lot of spam. The best part is it doesn't slow search, or change anything, it is like the spam was never there.

LinkedIn is the social networking tool of choice for CIOs, make sure you get the most from it

LinkedIn is the social networking tool of choice for CIOs, make sure you get the most from it

Knowing how to interact with your connections on the professional social network isn't always as straightforward as it seems. These are the three cardinal rules that you should follow.

1 Build a Strong LinkedIn Profile

With so many people job hunting now, you've got more competition than ever on LinkedIn. CIO recruitment specialists all advise a strong LinkedIn Profile. It was one of the top recommendations of what headhunters are looking for.

2 Manage LinkedIn Connections

You've signed up for LinkedIn, because everyone says it's the primary business social network. But to whom should you connect? Your strategy should differ from your approach to Facebook.

When it comes to LinkedIn connections, some people believe more is better, creating huge networking circles. But that approach has prompted debate, with even some people inside LinkedIn saying that's a risky strategy.

Company profile pages on LinkedIn can help you tune into a company's comings and goings, executive relationships and key business facts.

3 How to Get the Most from LinkedIn Recommendations

As potential employers or recruiters peruse your work experience on LinkedIn, recommendations from past and present colleagues can be one of the most helpful features to help communicate your value.

LinkedIn open networkers, or LIONs, accept almost all LinkedIn connection requests and introduce strangers out of good will.

LinkedIn has imposed new restrictions on the number of connections any one person can have, say members of the LinkedIn open networkers, a controversial group that accepts almost all LinkedIn connection requests. The group appears to be walking an increasingly fine line with the social network.

Men and women use Facebook differently: study

Facebook may be the 'coolest' social networking website, but males and females define cool differently, as researchers at the Queensland University of Technology have found.

While women prefer applications through which they can express themselves, men choose ones where they can compete against others, according to the study. The researches have based their findings on an analysis of the value of applications, such as 'Scrabble', 'Mousehunt' and 'Superpoke'.

Lead researcher Rebekah Russell-Bennett said, ''Facebook users want to possess and share cool applications that enhance their standing within their network of friends. For women this is about self-expression, for men it is about who is the best.'' She added that both genders want novelty and rarity.

''The study found value is measured for women according to the ability of the application to facilitate self-expression of interests, values or personality, and for men according to the ability to facilitate competition and comparison,'' Russel-Bennet said.

Russell-Bennett, along with co-researcher Larry Neale, highlighted the importance of the study by saying that from a commercial view, organisations were struggling to understand how to develop a 'cool' application and identify the features that would encourage people to recommend the application to friends.

"Popular applications can attract tens of millions of views and uses per month, and given that applications are relatively cheap to develop and are distributed virtually cost-free, this makes them an attractive substitute to traditional advertising," Russel-Bennet said.

"Anecdotally we know that companies are spending a lot of money on applications but they aren't necessarily working." Now that they are armed with the knowledge of what motivates people to use and recommend applications, companies could better tap into the social networking market, Russell-Bennett added.

The results of the study titled, "What value do users derive from social networking applications?" will be presented at the UK Academy of Marketing conference in Leeds later this month.

Write Area is Firefox Add-on Which Turns text areas into HTML fields enabled by FCKeditor : Free Useful Tools and API's

Whenever you find a text area in a page where HTML is allowed you can use the entry from the context menu to launch this editor that will enable you to easily write the HTML without worrying about the syntax thanks to the embedded WYSIWYG editor.

The core is FCKeditor 2.6 with a little change so it can run properly inside the chrome, and it also provides a way for FCKeditor to use the internal spellchecker.

If you have installed WriteArea then soon you'll get the updated version.

It finally adds tooltips for the toolbar buttons, and two new buttons besides the "save" button.

The first one allows to save the current content to a file in your computer, great if you want to keep drafts of any kind of templates around. The second button is obviously the one to load those files, the icons might not fit exactly with the rest but I'm not a designer and I always rather focus on the most important things.

Now that CKEditor 3 is getting closer everyday I don't know if next update will be based still on the 2.6 line of FCKeditor, or if it will start using that fresh new code. Some of the advantages of the new code doesn't apply the same way inside chrome than it does in a website, but on the other side it might open new opportunities, they might need some time to check and test the ideas so such future update might get delayed quite a while.

There are other ideas for the current code, but they also take time, I wish that there would be a way to code everything that goes throught my mind.

Family Time Decreasing for family as Web Use Grows, Social Networking

Social networking online might join millions, but a new study suggests it contributes to less time spent as a family.

In the first half of the decade, families reported spending 26 hours a month together. By 2008, that dropped to 18 hours, according to the Annenberg Center for the Digital Future.

So much has contributed to the demise of quality family time — varying work schedules, rising dual-income households, increasing commute times and work days, and participating in multiple children’s sports and activities.

Yet this new study points out a dramatic drop in time spent together at the same time as a seemingly meteoric rise in social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Hardware itself also has become more affordable, bringing to three the number of computers in the average home.

The same can be said for television, which has become more affordable and thus changed from a group activity in a family room to an individual pursuit in bedrooms, offices and even garages.

Technology has joined people in incredible ways. But when it causes a rift in the heart of the family, something must change.

Psychologists attribute family time to important childhood development.

Technology certainly is the future, but it is our children who will shape it and our families, organizations, communities, states and the nation.

Families deserve more quality time.

Advertisers angry over Facebook click fraud

Over the past few weeks, big affiliate advertisers on Facebook have reported a spike in fake clicks, but this is only part of where Facebook has faced challenges within its ad network over the past few months. The reason for the surge in fake clicks is a result of a number of things including the creation of Facebook ad scrapers that are being used to track advertisers’ ads on the site and what pages the ads are linking to.
An Affiliate Land Rush Begins

Prior to exploring the current claims for click fraud, I thought it would be important to discuss some background. Back at the end of January Facebook switched their ad policy to allow the promotion of ringtones, dating, quizzes, freebies, work at home products, and surveys. While the exact reason for this is unknown, we can assume that it’s because Facebook wanted a taste of the massive affiliate marketing cash that’s available.

We’ve been exploring extreme affiliate marketing ads over the past few weeks in what we called the “race to the bottom” for ad networks and developers, but Facebook hasn’t exactly kept their hands clean in this matter either. For those that are unaware of what affiliate marketers are, they are the middleman (or middle-woman) between customers and product offers on the internet. Wikipedia defines Affiliate Marketing as “Internet-based marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate’s marketing efforts.”

Many of these affiliates have been in the space for a long time and have amassed large amounts of cash to the point that some were looking to spend upwards of $30,000 a day through Facebook’s ad network. The result is that upwards of a million dollars a day could be generated on Facebook through affiliate marketing ad spends. With Facebook looking to increase their revenue, this was most definitely a quick way to generate some cash and for a few lucky affiliate marketers, an opportunity to jump into an unsaturated market.
With Rules Relaxed, Advertisers Get Aggressive

As Facebook began to relax their rules on what advertisers could promote, the company witnessed a jump in revenue with the new surge in affiliate marketers. By March, Facebook had adjusted their advertising terms of service to include a new segment.
